Me and IC 7486

Its was semester Exam day.It was digital circuits practical exam.
Unusually i arrived 10 minutes late for the exam, yet i was not nervous.:)
As any practical exam i submitted the record and picked a sheet in the lot it said "DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT HALF ADDER AND FULL ADDER CIRCUITS USING LOGIC GATES" Surprised to get such an easy experiment at sem exam, i began with aim, apparatus required, circuit diagram, truth table, procedure and ended with result. It took me 2 sheets to complete the writing part of the experiment.
Now, its time to connect the circuit and seek the output.
I went to fetch the components, there were so many 7486 IC's. Then i connected 7th pin to ground and 14th pin to +15V(thats wrong,it should be connected to +VCC terminal)

The rest of the connections were made in a few minutes and i switched ON the power.
There were fumes from my circuit,unusually....
It was a fraction of a second that turned left, right, towards the tutor and also towards my fellow student to check if they have spotted me and my circuit with fumes..
Oh Thank GOD,no one spotted me.Well i have burnt an IC,the 7486 IC.
Replica of a CRIMINAL HIDING HIS CRIME,i was stead fast in blowing the fumes away and took that IC out of the bread board with my hankie :(
I'm in damn need of a new 7486,what to do??how can i let the tutor know that i have burnt an IC??
If I let out the truth it'll fetch me a black mark.I lied to the tutor.
I said to her"EXCUSE ME MAM,I NEED AN IC 7486,THIS ONE IS BROKEN"(Its burnt actually, anyway its useless so I broke a pin and made it a scrap)
I feel bad to have lied and i'm telling about this crime to all my kith and kin,to feel light after committing a crime thats the reason behind this post...

Now I'm with a new 7486 IC and I was bit more careful with this one and successfully
completed the connections and the output was perfect and got it verified too..

All the tasks at the lab are over now and its time to leave.I'm supposed to disconnect the circuit and place it ready for the next batch of students to engage in the circuitry.
The process of disconnecting began,I pulled the wiring hastily and pulled the IC's hastily because its all over for me and I'll be leaving the lab in a few minutes.
The proverb proved itself "HASTE MAKES WASTE"..yes the same old IC 7486's pin got hurt,it got fractured badly,it is supposed to be pointing down but then it was pointing right..what a mess!!! Second crime!!!My heart is weak to bear this...

This time I rolled it up in a couple of wires and placed it in a corner of the table and disappeared from the lab...
This is how even the lame ones become criminals...lol...
