The Story of 'How I became an INFOSCION...'

A week and two days back the final year students of HICET gather to get the information of INFOSYS' combined campus drive for HICET, SRIT and CIET. Then on every day was placement training at college, training us in Quantitative aptitude and HR interview. Literally a huge amount of stuffs were incorporated every single day getting closer to 22 Dec 2010 (Interview Day).

I prepared quantitative aptitude, Verbal and Non-verbal, logical reasoning in a fast phase as days are short when you start working.

Finally 22 Dec 2010 dawned!!!

Ground: SRIT
Scene 1:

Every eligible candidate from three colleges turned up in huge number and so do I.
First was a excellent Presentation by Infoscion detailing the past, present and future of the Giant (infy). Then all of us were allocated halls to take up Written Test. It was 10 30, I was in the hall, applications were distributed, and filled it as instructions guided well. Be very careful while filling this application because at the end of the day in HR round you will find this in the hands of the Interviewer.

Scene 2:

Then written test started, it had 2 sections. One was logical and analytical reasoning having a pattern, 5 questions of visual sequence, then a paragraph thats requires logical thinking and little bit of Math carrying 5 questions, followed by data sufficiency and data interpretation questions each accounts for 5 marks, then was another paragraph testing your reasoning skills and last was like first sentence is a consequence of second sentence. Totally first section weighs 30 marks to be completed in 40 minutes. The time was ample and easy kind of questions were asked.

Second section tests English skills, with sentence completion, choosing the grammatically correct sentence, then a series of simple paragraphs carrying one question each appeared, last part was a very very very one page long reading comprehension, skimming and scamming will do, ending with a half page long comprehension. English part amounts for 40 marks with a duration of 35 minutes.
Right after you get your question start finding answers stead-fast as towards the end of the questionnaire requires a lot lot of time.

Scene 3:

Well then, written test was done, it was 1 o'clock all of us patiently and impatiently awaited the results. A few preliminary instructions came in. Here it goes " The results will be arriving shortly. I have a few requests. Please do not clap or get over excited. In case of any confusions in the details of selected candidates Please do not barge in between, come back to me once I'm done with announcing the results. "

After that, like an hour passed. Finally results came in " Lets start with Hindusthan.. S... " I clapped out of excitement, the one with mic said " I said dont clap". second name was called out '' Dharini Venkataraman of IT". God!!! thats me!! then I walked out to head to HR interview. There were 8 students from my class and it was a record as fellow dept from my college had a low strength.

Scene 4:

We were to sit on the queue to make all requisites ready in hand. I was ready and called in as the first candidate to start this HR interview. Here goes the questions that were shot at me.
1) Dharini Venkataraman, you are from Hindusthan college of engineering and technology, right? Tell about your life as student at Hindusthan.
2) So you were the Students' Joint Secretary? What was your role being so?
3) Did you face any problems being the Secretary? if so, how did you solve it?
4) Have done any mini project?
5) What problems did you face while doing it? How did you solve it?
6) What is you role in Main project?
7) What are your interests?
8) I said Blogging and music, so he asked.. So you dont read?

Thats it HR interview was done. I was waiting for like 3 hours for the results.

And yes, the results came, "Dharini Venkataraman of Dept of IT " was called out.

Thus I became an INFOSCION :)

My first ever mock interview :)

It was a Thursday
Ground- Assembly hall
Trainers from Zoom Consultancy zoomed into the campus.
We ITians, aeronautical and mech final years were called and split into 4 groups with IT, aero and mech all together. That was literally the first time we were juxtaposed with the non circuit branch.

It was whole lot of excitement in the beginning. The session started with marketing. We started to mingle with each other and it was perfect team work, felt really comfortable than with the students of my class. Because these people are new to us and knew almost nothing and had no grudges on square 1.

Then was Mock Interview session. I was pin pointed, targeted, aimed at , bull's eye...
Interview started!!

Int: Tell about your self
Me: I'm dharini. A final year B.Tech IT student at Hindusthan college of engineering and technology.
My family is father, who works as Q/C inspector in West africa, my mother, a happy home maker and my elder brother working as Senior Bioinformatician in Malaysia.
Talking about my strengths, I'm a good organiser, my self confidence takes me higher in career. I love team work, good in time management and i'm self motivated.

Int: Impressive... What are your hobbies?
Me: I play violin and blog.

Int: So you are a carnatic or western musician?
Me: Carnatic

Int: Which ragam do you like?
Me: i like Mohanam

Int: Why do you like it?
Me: This raga doesn't have ma and ni swaras and every song composed in this raga is mesmerizing. Thus I like it.

Int: Do you love someone?
Me: Yes, my parents.

Int: You said you are good in time management. how do you manage time?
Me: I list my chores, then fix up priorities. Depending on how much time a task accounts I'll devote that much time for it.

Int: What about being an organizer?
Me: Well, in my college we organize symposiums, national level conferences and workshops every year. I actively played as the chief organizer. Managing as many as 200 students, splitting them into committees, assigning tasks, giving deadlines, eventually extracting quality work on time. And in the end symposiums turned out to be a grand success. That's my achievement as an organizer.

Int: What makes you cry?
Me: loneliness after a heated conversation with a close mate makes me cry.

Int: So you pull up heated conversation?
Me: Not so, at times situations makes me burst out and he/ she doesn't try to understand me. Resulting in heated conversation and a loneliness after it.

Int: Alright, imagine you are working with us. A gentleman in the firm who is close to you wants you to reveal company's secrets. If you don't he'll leave you. What will you do?
Me: I'll will not reveal company's secrets and treasure the trust of the company on me. And a person who wants me to reveal company's secrets is definitely not a trustworthy person. So better I lose him.

Int: Good!!
What is your area of interest?
Me: Object Oriented Programming

Int: What is a virus?
Me: Sorry I don't know :(

Int: What is a constructor?
Me: A constructor initializes objects, ie., variables and functions in the object. Assigning default values to variables... blah blah..

Int: What is the difference between procedure oriented programming and object oriented programming?
Me: In Procedural programming Programmer combines related sequences of statements into one single place called procedure. A procedure call is used to invoke the procedure. After the sequence is processed flow of control proceeds right after the position where the call was made.

But the approach in oops is that classes and objects are used to model real world entity taking help of methods which performs the functions. Emphasis is laid on tasks in prod. approach whereas in oops concept emphasis is on things that does the tasks.

Int: What is your vision and mission?
Me: My vision is to become a programmer, develop professionally. My mission is I'm learning programming languages and developing logically thinking to support programming skills.

Int: Associate you and your name.
Me: My name dha- ri- ni is a combination of 3 swaras of music. Also I'm a musical person.

Int: So being a developer is not so important for you?
Me: See hobby and profession are different sectors of life. Hobby is for relaxation and professional life is major part of life. Thus both are important.

Int: Any queries for us?
Me: What will be my growth in your firm?

Int: You will start the journey as a developer with us then team lead, project lead till the GM of the company.
Me: Great! Thank you.

Int: Done!!

And the feedback for this interview with them was i have to change my answer for "WHAT MAKES YOU CRY?" and widen my area of interest.
Eye contact, gestures and communication was impressive and outstanding (I swear..no exaggeration !!)

Here it goes,

Good Evening guests and dignitaries!!

I deem it a great honour and privilege to propose the vote of thanks on behalf of the student body of the Department of Information Technology. This symposium posts us an opportunity to reassess the extent of the talent, of each individual who has indulged themselves in this symposium activities.

Our day's Chief Guest Mr. Vaibhav Choudary, Sustain Engineer at Sun Microsystems, is a versatile genius and multifarious personality whose philanthropic deeds are widely appreciated and acknowledged. As a matter of fact, he has a busy schedule to be attended to, but he has consented to attend our symposium for which I am deeply grateful to him on behalf of our department.

I wish to express my gratitude to our college and most importantly our Chief Patron Mrs. Saraswathy Kannaiyan. The successful culmination of this symposium owes much to the guidance and support of our principal Dr. V. Duraisamy.

FAREWELL SENIORS!!

I remember fondly the colorful days when you bullied me. From my day 1 till your last day you made my days exciting, fearsome, annoying, teaching, working as a team on OUR association activities, playing, messaging, planning, organizing, teasing, taming.

I remember the day you came over to my class with an announcement "WE ARE ORGANIZING A SYMPOSIUM ON 5TH MARCH 2009. ITS COMPULSORY THAT EVERYONE HAVE TO LEND THEIR SHARE IN WORKING IN COMMITTEES TO MAKE OUR ITRENDZ A GRAND SHOW"
This started the OD(on-duty) culture in the department. I fortunately or unfortunately tied myself with SPONSOR COMMITTEE.
We roamed through every street and every shop n showroom we spotted gave us financial support. Important, our petty meetings exchanging petty experiences time and again. Your threats "WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO FETCH 10K SPONSORSHIP PER VOUCHER ELSE YOUR TEAM IS GONNA PAY!!! "

You named my team "book 5". We used to track you saying "Anna this is book 5 members we got a sponsor for front page of magazine".

Our ITRENDZ '09 came out big and we raised our collars in pride, that was literally the 1st feather on our dept's hat.
The next semester we met again in forming our association christened "KRAIT" acronym for Karizmatic Rulers Association of Information Technology.
The chairman, secretary headed by our very own co-ordinator marked your presence in my class to pick fellow office bearers the vice chairman and joint secretary. My classmate and I volunteered to bear the pride of dynamic office bearers.

It was KRAIT's day out!!
We office bearers took charge and stood tall on the dice posing our positions to the entire department.

Our immediate goal was conceiving symposium and we did stick together through hurricanes, eruptions, blows, celebrations, organized our way to ITRENDZ 2010.
I even remember the day you asked me "can we have it as itrendz 10 or itrendz 2010 like ipl 2020".

The days were long and gloomy when you left the juniors in organizing activities. You shielded me from blames and issues that were part and parcel of the committees division.

Our discussions, our decisions, our decorations, our deals worked wonders at ITRENDZ 2010 dated March 5th, 2010.

We then made ourselves busy with National level conference and Workshops which were yet another feather to the hat.

Still N number of memories you gave us, is left unsaid, we indeed toiled and moiled for a Farewell day celebration which incurred failure.

Seniors out there, build an empire of innovations, work for your priced and priceless dreams and ambitions.
You stepped out leaving us a path well tamed, experimented and lived.
We'll work to live up to your marks.

May all live a better, bigger and brightest future...
Adieu.. farewell

LOVE was when.....

* you found lame reasons to talk to me in a crowd

* you ran all the way from an adjacent block of our college on V-day to talk at least a word unmindful of what the fellows would pull up about us

* you were focusing me on a digi in a crowd, unmindful of a huge gathering waiting for you to capture their presence

* you were hanging at my class staring me all the while

* you peeped in between your buddies to catch a glimpse of me and throw a smile

* you wanted to protect me from your buddies bullying me by instructing me to address each of them as "ANNA" (means elder brother)

* you argued with invigilators to take my place as my class was your exam hall to give your internal exams

* you texted me saying "hi today valentine's day i love you be happy"

* you burnt midnight oil texting me all your romances when I was fast asleep

* you shared all the fancies and frolics of your life when i was yet to plunge into your life

* you were mad to impress me by your artistic skills and pretending to be a guitarist unknowing that I was a hundred folds impressed by you even before you consciously started impressing me

* you said "I'll talk to your parents when its time fruitful for us to wed"

* you went mad after finding that I was off that day to college and you even picked conversation with my buddies to find whatsoever

* you stood on the private corridor to my class to steal a glimpse of me unmindful of what was happening in your class

* you secretly winked at me when you were with your buddies and made me break into laughter

*LOVE was when you were 3rd year and i was 2nd year...

*NOW i'm final year and you are gone............out of my sight, out of my life...

*But why #$%!*(%&!@#%!??@#$

PS: Any occurrence of characters and places in real life similar to this post is absolutely coincidental. This post is truly imaginary. Its not about dharini and prem kumar or dharini and anyone :) :)
